The news was pretty grim this week. First we heard about the abrupt closing of Simpsonville Chevrolet earlier this week. Called in the employees and told them they no longer had jobs. The Greenville News today said the employees all received severance packages. Small consolation.
I had heard that the Travelers Rest location of Kevin Whitaker' Chevrolet had suffered the same fate but my source could not confirm it. But on the front page of the business section of the Greenville News this a.m. was the story that they had suffered the same fate of being shut down. Their employees fared a little better though. All but one, according the Greenville News, had been transferred to the Laurens Rd. location of Kevin Whitaker's Chevrolet in Greenville, SC.
Our new president keeps telling us it is going to get worse before it gets better. I just hope there is still a Corvette manufacturing plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky, to tour in September 2009. It will cast a cold shadow on the Fifteenth Anniversary Celebration of the National Corvette Museum. Attendees will be hard pressed to be in a festive mood if there is darkness at the plant next door. I predict Kleenex sales will skyrocket in those circumstances.
