Corvettes at the Michelin Test Track

Ok, Ok, I admit I have always wanted a chance to do this! Ever since I found out about the Michelin test tract in Laurens county, SC, I have drooled over the idea over getting to drive a Corvette on it.

Next Saturday, thanks to one man's efforts, my son and I will get the chance to do just that. Frank Sancenito, the leader of the 2009 National Corvette Caravan (NC, SC, & VA), had told us in September 2009 that he wanted to talk with the Michelin execs about doing a driving event at the Laurens test track. Earlier this year, we received the news via email. June 5. Saturday, the test track, be there or be square!!

Thank you, Frank!!!! I can't wait!!

Did I ever mention I love to shop?

I promised I would get a picture of my newest acquisitions! I bought these lovely statues at Bradley's Antiques and More located on Main Street, # 127, in LaGrange, GA. This was a delightful little antique shop with some very good buys. We had no trouble finding room for these beauties in the Electron Blue C5 Corvette but some of the fabulous furniture we saw would have required the trusty Silverado, Big Red.

An update on the credit card issue with Mountain Creek Inn at Pine Mountain, GA. I did end up filing a dispute since I had not seen my refund posted after we returned home. It is in process and I hope for closure soonest!

The C5 has gained a deserved rest from all the road trips we have made this spring. The 15th Anniversary of the National Corvette Museum and the big Caravans involved with this event are looming every closer. I am going to try to get all my pictures and travel notes organized so I can share them with my friends and fellow Corvette enthusiasts.

Great people, great cars, GREAT CAUSE!!!

One member of our little "unclub" put it the best I think, when he said "If we can afford to drive these cars, we can afford to help others." How true a statement this is.

Our area recently experienced a heat wave that was uncharecteristic of June weather. A local radio station put out a plea for donations of electric fans that would be taken to Meals on Wheels, a program that delivers one meal a day to senior citizens who for various reasons are unable to feed themselves adequately. When I heard about this, it seemed like a great way for our group to help out. The email went out, please meet us for dinner and bring an new electric fan, some pet food, or a check. (Meals on Wheels also has a pet program to bring food for their recipients' pets. It was discovered that these elderly folks were giving part of their meal to what are their closest and possibly only companions, their pets.)

So this past Friday night the Carolina Vettepack met at the Olive Treerestaurant on Villa Rd. at N. Pleasantburg drive in Greenville, SC. We enjoyed Greek and Italian dishes and each other's company. Afterwards the club member loaded fans and pet food bags into our C5. (If you have been kind enough to read my previous posts, you know how much stuff you can cram into a Corvette C5!) We will get them delivered next week, because the heat is just getting started for this summer!
