Economy deals another blow....

If you have been kind enough to follow my blog, you know I enjoy getting out on pretty days and riding around in the Corvette with my better half. One of the annual events that is a "must do" is the "Art in the Park" festival held in downtown Greenville, SC, in the spring. Taking in our lovely downtown district, enjoying all the many and varied art offerings and maybe finding a piece that speaks to your soul, eating lunch at one of the wonderful restaurants are all part of the experience.

You can imagine the dismay I felt when I read the front page of the Greenville News this morning. The decision had been made to cancel the event for this year and plan for 2010. Due to the economy, less sponsors, artists having to tighten their belts and not being able to travel as far to art festivals were the reasons given.

We will miss not being able to attend "Art in the Park" this year but will hold on to the hope for 2010.

Whatb a loss for the artists and for all of us...we just need to pray that the economy turns around before we are all on the street!

There should be a movement to have at least a small show for local artists to sale there art around that same time. I know there are many artists who were dismayed by this decision and need this local venue in these hard times. I know because im one of them. I do this for a living and yes we are tightening our belts. But we are doing more local shows so we dont have to travel as far. Its going to be a shame that the city or county doesnt offer something even if its just a one day event to try to help in this matter. I feel that our art museum should coordinate something and have it on the green in front. Its needed. I dont know what it would take to see it through. Local artists here have few opportunities as it is here. This is just another blow to us.
