Contentment of the Moment

Enjoying the quiet of the moment...for now. Finally cool enough for leaving the door open in the den, feeling the cool weather. The heat was just about too much for me this summer. Thank heaven that the C5 has a great air conditioner!

Hard to believe that October is almost here. This month has just flown by, the first week of which we were on the Caravan to Bowling Green. What a tremendous trip that was!! From the first day, everything was so easy and enjoyable. Running laps at Lowes Motor Speedway, getting your picture made in the winners circle, and lining up for the pit row photo were first for me. Eating lunch at the Speedway Club was also a new experience and the food was excellent. Backyard Burgers catered supper that night at the hotel. What a great feeling, to be relaxing in a parking lot of beautiful cars and people who share the same passion for America's greatest sportscar!!

The next morning we headed out to Sevierville, TN, stopping at Landrum for lunch.
We were greeted by Bib, the Michelin man. Michelin was a big sponsor of the Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina caravan. They had a Michelin big rig at the Hampton Inn in Charlotte and were installing new tires for Caravanners who had pre-ordered them. After lunch, it was off the the Hampton Inn in Kodak, TN, where we enjoyed a wonderful barbeque and ice cream sundae bar before turning in early.

Thursday morning, Sept.3, saw us all up at an extremely early hour. Quick breakfast and pack the car. In the predawn darkness, it was enjoyable to watch all the Corvettes circling the big parking lot where staging was taking place, running lights on the sleek forms circling the area like the sharks and stingrays they are named for. Then, the word came. Permission to go and go fast from the law enforcement officers. Didn't have to tell us twice!! Off to Bowling Green!!!

After a much needed break at Cookville, TN, we got back on the highway and finally arrived at the Harley Davidson store in Bowling Green, KY, where we lined up by clubs and groups. American flags, Caravan flags and club flags flying, we were paraded into and in front of the National Corvette Museum. We were finally there!!

The rest of the week was filled with plant tours, museum tours, shopping in the Museum store, eating at great restaurants like the Montana Grill in Bowling Green. It was truly an experience of a lifetime!

We broke up the trip home by stopping at Pigeon Forge. I did even more shopping at the Tanger outlets on Labor Day before we finally turned Bonnie Blue's nose towards home.

Since then we have been busy with catching up at work and home. The Carolina Vettepack met at the Acropolis restaurant on Pelham Road to share our Caravan experiences and to discuss future events and charity work.

What a great bunch of people!! I am so proud to know them and experience life together!! I am ready to keep rolling down the road to see what will be.
